How to Measure Content Engagement in WordPress

Measuring content engagement inside WordPress means answering two questions directly in the admin you already use, without exporting data to a separate dashboard or learning a new tool's own interface conventions.

Where the numbers actually show up

With the Semantic Journey WordPress plugin installed, both modules surface in three places. The Reports screen under Semantic Journey in the admin menu shows every piece of content with its four Reader Progress counts and a column for every Decision Point you've set up, filterable by 7, 30, or 90 day windows, with one-click CSV export. A summary box on the post editor itself shows the same numbers for the piece you're currently working on. A column on the Posts list shows them without opening the post at all.

Setup requires no template editing

Reader Progress starts recording as soon as the plugin is active, with no configuration required. Decision Point recognizes phone number, email, and text message links automatically. Anything else, a donate button or a custom signup link, can be set up as a URL pattern rule in Settings, matching links by their address, or with a developer marker for more precise control if you want it.

What the four milestones tell you inside WordPress specifically

Because WordPress already organizes content by post, the Reports screen naturally groups Reader Progress data the same way: Started Reading, Reached the Middle, Read Most, and Reached the End, per post, sortable and filterable like any other admin table. A sharp drop between two milestones on a specific post is visible immediately, without needing to cross-reference a separate analytics platform against your post list by hand.
